Currently, Africans account for 17% of the world’s population, a figure that is expected to rise to 26% by 2050. With this population increase and higher life expectancy, the disease burden of Parkinson’s is projected to rise exponentially. This makes it critical to address this issue now. At present, only 2% of the world’s genetic data is of African origin. Therefore, it is essential to bridge this gap through additional funding and collaborations as soon as possible.
